Soul and Saddle
Student-led equine program supporting neurodiverse children in Shanghai
RDA Diary entry 9. 3/2
I brought four classmates from school: Mido, Lindsey, Adriana, and Alicia. None of them had horse experience, but we all shared a heart of caring. They wanted to do volunteering, so I showed them how to tack up a horse, use safety stirrups, and handle bridles. We practiced side-walking and then leading.
I shared my own experience with them. I told them that when working with kids, we need to communicate more and try to see things from the children’s perspective. One of them asked me why Xuan was so “rude” and wondered how I could stand her for so long. I was surprised, because now I feel that Xuan is improving.
