RDA Diary entry 3. 11/17

Xuan is becoming a more adaptable rider, so we added a new element to the activities: directional play with a hula hoop. Xuan is curious, and while she's not always fully engaged, today she was excited to try it to the point that she nearly yells. The hula hoop is to give her a sense of direction as if it were a steering wheel, and I was there to gently guide the horse following her decisions about which way to go. The activity was quite simple, but it encouraged her to focus on making choices at any second.

We also incorporated fun challenges for both the children and the horses, like the game where they had to keep an egg in a spoon while they are walking. It builds coordination, and success does not come from balancing yourself along, but also the horse. The children are laughing and enjoing themselves.

One of the biggest improvement I've seen is in Xuan's growing willingness to try new things. She became much more relaxed on the horseback and even stood up on the stirrups without hesitation!

We also worked on some basic skills such as walking the horse in a straight line and learning how to navigate arounf obstacles. Although she is still far from perfect, I can see that Xuan's confidence builds through small improvements. I can tell that our therapy is really making a difference, not just in her physical ability but also in her emotional stability.
